Thoạt mới trông qua... bỗng giật mình!

Hình ai?

Miệng quấn bởi chằn tinh?

Có bàn tay sắt đang ghì chặt

Kìm tiếng hô vang giữa pháp đình!

Hình ai?

Đấy linh mục anh hùng Nguyễn Văn Lý!

Thân trong tù hình bay khắp năm châu

Bạo quyền ấy làm sao ngăn nổi

tiếng thét: “Đả đảo cộng sản!”

Đã lừng vang trên khắp mặt địa cầu?

Hình ai?

Đấy người tù Việt Nam trước vành móng ngựa

Của công lý một chiêu rừng rú

Tù nhân không được nói một lời!

Không luật sư biện hộ!

Không người thân được mời!

Hình ai?

Người Việt Nam tôi đấy!

Miệng bịt lâu rồi còn biết kêu ai!

Tôn giáo tôi bị bạo quyền đàn áp

Nông dân tôi bị chiếm đoạt đất đai

Công nhân tôi, chủ tha hồ bóc lột

Nỗi oan khiên tràn biển rộng sông dài...

Đấy linh mục anh hùng Nguyễn Văn Lý

Có vầng trán kiên cường niềm tin sắt đá

Đôi mắt rạng ngời phá vỡ tối tăm?

Tiếng thét ấy sẽ còn vang mãi mãi...

Thế giới đâu rồi?

Sao vẫn cứ lặng câm?

WHO IS IT?

I felt like shingles tingling when I first saw the picture!

Who is it?

Whose mouth is shut as by a boa constrictor?

An iron arm clamping tight that tries

To repress a shout... that echoes throughout the courtroom!

Who is it?

O it's the heroic Father Nguyen Van Ly

Whose body is in prison but whose picture has flown to the five continents

Something that their tyrannical rule cannot possibly stop

Like his shout: “Down with Communism!”

That reverberates around the planet.

Who is it?

It's a Vietnamese prisoner in the dock

Of a kangaroo court that dispenses only one-way justice,

Not allowed to say a word!

Not given the right to an attorney!

With no kin allowed inside the courtroom!

Who is it?

That's all of us Vietnamese

With mouths long since taped, with nowhere to appeal to!

Our religions are repressed by the brutal regime,

Our peasants have their lands confiscated,

Our workers are freely exploited by foreign bosses,

Crying out injustice-as wide as the ocean and rivers.

Who is it?

That's our hero, Father Nguyen Van Ly

With his defiant forehead and unshakable faith,

With searing eyes that will pierce the night...

His shout will echo and reverberate forever...

World, where are you? 

How can you remain silent?
